July is here and that means scallops for us on the Nature Coast!!!

Scalloping has been great on the grass flats between Crystal River and Homosassa in depths anywhere from 3-6 feet. Swim against the current flow so you can see down into the grass to pick up the tasty critters.

Remember if you’re going out on your own boat to have all the proper safety equipment as well as a dive flag flying and visible while divers are in the water!

As for the fishing side of things we have been targeting mangrove snapper on the nearshore rock piles and ledges using live shrimp and light flouro carbon leaders.

The inshore bite for redfish can be great but with water temps approaching the low 90s they can be tricky. For your best chance at success, go early or late and play the tides right. Look for the mullet schools on hard rock points and fish cut mullet, cut lady fish, live pinfish or live shrimp. Hard incoming or hard outgoing tides will bring you the best luck.

Stay safe out there, Tight lines!
